I first moved to New Meadows, Idaho nearly ten years ago to teach science in our local schools and like many who fall in love with this place, I never left. The mountains, the riparian corridors, the wildflower meadows this landscape worked its way into everything I made. Over time I stopped teaching in a classroom and started teaching through art, building KT Mountain Studio into a internationally recognized ceramic business. The birth of my daughter and some tough business decisions led me to pausing the business for a few years. In 2026 I was accepted as the artist in residence for a local conservation organization, giving me the impetus and the space to create again. This project has sent me on a trajectory of creating through a new medium (acrylic and relief work) but my iconic style of speckled white backgrounds, watercolor imagery, line work and rendering of the species that surround us, have all carried through. More importantly my mission from KT Mountain studio - creating a connection to place so that we may care more deeply about the world around us - has remained the same. My work today dives even deeper into my scientific background, intentionally using natural pigments when possible, carefully choosing species that are not only iconic but also ecological significant and sharing the story of place through community outreach.
